Smoker Steiger with candle holder

This lovingly and elaborately crafted smoker, “Foreman” with candle holder, is made by Legler Wood and Drechselware, traditionally handcrafted, richly detailed, and colorfully hand-painted. On his head, he wears a tall, black top hat adorned with a green plume. Furthermore, golden, crossed mining tools, a hammer and pick, adorn the front of the hat, making him a striking symbol of mining. His face is lively and expressive: rosy cheeks, a small red nose, and a curved mustache give him a friendly and characterful expression. Furthermore, his eyes are painted blue and clearly, further emphasizing his friendly appearance. His clothing is not only traditional but also carefully crafted. The foreman’s black jacket is complemented by gold decorations on the shoulders and chest, with the gold buttons arranged symmetrically. Around his waist, he wears a striking red belt, accentuated by a silver buckle. The white trousers, typical of a miner’s uniform, feature black reinforcements at the knees, reminiscent of underground work clothes. Simple, black shoes complete the overall look of the uniform. In his right hand, the foreman holds a bright red candlestick, decorated with a gold border, symbolizing the vital light in mining. At the same time, he carries a brown wooden pipe in his left hand, from which smoke can rise when the smoker is used, bringing the figure to life in an impressive way. At his left side hangs a delicately designed golden saber in a black scabbard. This detail represents the authority and high rank the foreman holds within the mining hierarchy. The figure stands firmly on a gray base, modeled on sparkling ore, giving the smoker stability. The combination of traditional symbolism, precise craftsmanship, and loving design makes the Steiger smoker an exceptional piece of Erzgebirge folk art.
